Profile of Mrs. Jarso Jallah-Saygbe

Mrs. Jarso Jallah-Saygbe is a seasoned professional with 16+ years of experience in academia at university, community college, vocational and secondary levels, and has extensive experience working with diverse, underserved, and underrepresented populations, as well as being an advocate for supporting the transformation of people, programs and institutions.

 Mrs. Jallah-Saygbe earned both a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology and dual Baccalaureate Degrees in Sociology and Communications from Rhode Island College. She has also completed a year of coursework leading towards a doctorate in educational leadership at Johnson & Wales University. In pursuit of the completion of her doctoral studies, Mrs. Jallah-Saygbe has gained admission to the Delaware State University Graduate School of Education, in the Doctoral Educational Leadership program.

 Prior to joining LIPA, she served in the capacity of Director, Consultant, University Lecturer, Advisor, Workforce Development Manager, Mentor, Curriculum Developer, Trainer and Facilitator. She has presented at State, Regional, Institutional and Local conferences,  seminars, workshops,  and retreats, in the US, on topics ranging from institutional effectiveness, student success, quality assessment, strategic planning, integrative and connected learning, faculty development, student management systems, employee performance appraisal, college admission, recruitment and enrollment, survey design, college affordability, professional communication, diversitycultural competence, focus group development and facilitation, amongst others.

 With years of directorship experience in academia, Mrs. Jallah-Saygbe has been instrumental in driving and maintaining the institutional vision for strong participant engagement and retention. As the Founding Director of the Academic Advisement and Student Services Division at Delaware State University, College of Mathematics, Natural Science and Technology, she provided strategic oversight of the program development, budget administration, research internships, career counseling, and academic advising. A strategist with the executive leadership team, she led the College student satisfaction and program performance assessment and evaluation initiative to ensure high quality program performance.

 As an advisor for the University of Rhode Island’s Talent Development Program, Mrs. Jallah-Saygbe coordinated a multi-dimensional mission of personal and academic development. By leading efforts across Health Services, Disability Services, Women’s Center, Residence Life, and various Faculty/Dean Departments. Furthermore, she developed advising and presentation materials, created curricula, and designed records management databases.

 Mrs. Jallah-Saygbe has collaboratively written and overseen numerous grant projects, including major awards from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Additionally, she has received several prestigious awards and appointments both at Delaware State University and University of Rhode Island; namely, the 2014 Excellence in Staff Service Award, Bill & Melinda Gates Student Success Initiative Implementation Team, Learning Community Strategic Planning Committee, National Science Foundation and US Department of Education Grant Writing Team, President’s Commission on the Status of Women, and the Scholastic Standing Review Committee. Additionally, she has served as a member on many institutional effectiveness committees.

 She has taught women and gender studies courses at the baccalaureate levels and general equivalency diploma courses. Mrs. Jallah-Saygbe enjoys engaging in philanthropic activities, mostly social justice advocacy that improves the economic outcomes of women and girls in developing countries. Her research interests include gender development, primarily policy and social inequalities in developing countries that restrict empowerment with particular focus on gender and class inequalities.
