The Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA) and Carter Center Liberia have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Freedom of Information Law.

The MOU is intended to strengthen the relationship between LIPA and the Carter Center and as well support increased transparency and effective application of the FOI Law.

Speaking following the signing of the Agreement, LIPA’s Director General Professor Alex Yonly said, the vision of his Administration is to see the institute transcend from capacity building to that of a capacity development Institution.

Honorable Yonly used the occasion to extend thanks and appreciation to the European Union for its support to the Carter Center which he said has enabled the Institution to collaborate with LIPA in developing a curriculum for the training of Public Servants in the usage of the Freedom of Information Law.

In other remarks, LIPA’s Deputy Director General for Training and Man Power Development, Hon. Amara Kamara lauded the Carter Center for collaborating with LIPA to develop the training program, noting that such training will help the Institute to improve on the services it is currently providing to the public and private sectors.

He said LIPA is committed to collaborate with any institution that has similar vision like the Carter Center in terms of initiating programs and other related trainings that will help to improve the transformation of Liberia.

For his part, Carter Center Country Representative Hon. Dorbor Jallah thanked LIPA for working with his institution to develop a curriculum on the Freedom of Information Law.

He said the Carter Center with support from the European Union has been working to ensure that they are able to develop a sustainable capacity within the country to build the skills of Liberians.

The Carter Center Country Representative said, those institutions like LIPA that are responsible for capacity building should be fully supported so as to enable them carryout the mandate of training public officials that are playing key roles in Government.

The signing ceremony took place in the Conference room of the Liberia Institute of Public Administration on Monday, April 8, 2019.
